Prof. Jiří A. Mejsnar is a distinguished Czech physiologist with extensive contributions to muscle energetics, thermoregulation, and cellular biology. He earned his degrees from Charles University, Prague, where he later served as a professor of physiology. His research spans over five decades, covering fundamental and applied aspects of physiology, and includes leadership in numerous national and international projects.
Despite political restrictions during the communist era, Prof. Mejsnar persevered in his academic pursuits, eventually gaining recognition and holding key academic positions, including Head of the Institute of General Biology & Genetics at Charles University’s Third Faculty of Medicine. He also co-founded Cytolab, Ltd., a medical center specializing in clinical genetics.
Prof. Mejsnar has published over 130 peer-reviewed papers, mentored numerous students, and organized international symposia on physiology and muscle energetics. His work has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the James D. Hardy Medal (USA), the Vilém Laufberger Medal (Czech Republic), and the International Order of Merit (UK).
