Dr. Jhan Sebastián Saavedra Torres is a Colombian physician and immunologist, trained at the University of the Basque Country in Vitoria-Gasteiz. He is currently a Family Medicine resident at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (2022–2025) and holds a Master’s degree in Palliative Care from Universidad Nebrija (Spain). He has participated in the NASA Human Research Program, contributing to interdisciplinary projects in space medicine.His current research focuses on developing hypothetical models of immune alterations induced by microgravity and ionizing radiation, with a special emphasis on molecular mechanisms, immune dysfunction, and tissue engineering. His objective is to understand accelerated immunosenescence in the space environment and to propose innovative immunological countermeasures for long-duration missions. He is a member of the Health Research Group (GIS) at the University of Cauca, where he integrates clinical immunology with public health and translational science. Dr. Saavedra has authored and co-authored several academic publications on immune adaptation, aging, and regenerative strategies.
